Within the halls of the Fira de Barcelona you can find some parked cars. Most are merely props for the 'stand look more there is even a Formula 1 car that serves spectacular "command" to control a car game. The Audi A5 parked at the corner of Qualcomm in the App Planet is another story because it is equipped with 3G connection, opening up endless possibilities as curious as useful.
The navigation system integrated in the car is called Plus MMI (Mobile Media Interface Plus) and provides connectivity developed by Qualcomm UMTS-Audi vehicles. It is not science fiction or a prototype that fit the developmental years, will be available later this year in a select group of Audi A8 vehicles.
At Mobile World Congress show was held at the 'stand' 'Embedded Mobile Zone' with an Audi A5 Cabriolet connectivity of high-speed 3G data, which provides navigation capabilities never seen before, some pure entertainment, a few really useful and others that could ultimately save lives.
MMI integrated connectivity allows the current car as a "hot spot" mobile, so that passengers can connect their devices to Wi-Fi Internet from the vehicle. Furthermore, the A5 show also features two screens integrated into the headrest of the front seats that allow mobile TV viewing by newly introduced technology from Qualcomm Flo-Ev.
Another interesting feature with this car that has connected technology is also Qualcomm wireless load. From under the front center armrest hides a space for induction charging device. This is a technology that allows energy transfer to devices that must have a battery and adapted to recharge surface without connections and only contact.
But it does not stop there. One of the most interesting contributions of the connectivity of the MMI is what saves lives. If, for example, the car has an accident, the car's intelligent system detects it and can quickly send a specific transmission of what and where it occurs, minimizing the response time and help.
"Audi is continually striving to offer new experiences for the automotive industry, and increasingly has the intention of providing not only the best technology for the automobile, but complementary capabilities that provide greater value to our customers," said the director of development Wireless Solutions area, acoustics and audio connectivity, Peter Kohlschmidt. "We are delighted to work with Qualcomm, the leading supplier of chipset solutions for mobile networks to offer this year a new kind of connected experience on the Audi A8.
For its part, the senior vice president of product management and marketing for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, Luis Pineda, said: "We are pleased to work with Audi, a leading world-renowned luxury cars, to show consumers such as the experience of jointly exploit different technologies for navigation and 3G connectivity. "By integrating technology from Qualcomm UMTS modem with its own navigation system Plus MMI, Audi will provide its users with a browsing experience like no other, which relies on a new concept based on the data in real time."
In addition to technology from Qualcomm, the latest generation of Audi A8 vehicles with MMI navigation plus system will also integrate its navigation system in the Google Earth application, which provides high-resolution images in 3D, satellite and aerial shots. Thus, the vehicle can provide route planning, points of interest and traffic updates in real time on a single platform, fully integrated.
